This week, our prayers are lifted to God on behalf of Ceuta. The origin of the city’s name may trace back to the designation given by the Romans to the seven hills of the region (Septem Fratres). From Septem > Septɘ > Sebta > Ceuta. Those born in Ceuta are called ceutí, and also caballa—a nickname given by locals because of the abundance of mackerel in its waters. The Royal Spanish Academy officially recognized this colloquial term in 2010. This reminds us of Scripture, when Jesus told us that we would become fishers of men. Pray with faith that the Gospel will reach many people in Ceuta, and that soon many families will surrender to the Lord, so that every fisher of men may rejoice in seeing their nets filled with all kinds of “fish.”
Matthew 4:19 “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
